Drafting scenarios for gas imbalance management in winter has begun to optimize consumption and enhance resilience in the country's gas network. These scenarios are presented with the aim of preventing potential crises and ensuring sustainable gas supply for consumers during the cold season.

Background of the Gas Imbalance Situation

As winter approaches, gas imbalance becomes one of the serious challenges in energy supply. The production capacity of gas in major fields such as the South Pars field, which is the largest gas field in the world with a daily production capacity of over 700 million cubic meters, is always under pressure from increasing demand. On the other hand, gas consumption in residential and industrial sectors, especially in the cold months, sees a significant rise.

Details of the Imbalance Management Scenarios

The drafted scenarios include plans for optimizing gas consumption, increasing storage, and managing existing resources. For example, one of the scenarios focuses on reducing gas consumption in non-essential sectors and reallocating it to critical areas such as heating homes and important industries. Additionally, increasing cooperation with neighboring countries for gas imports and utilizing natural gas reserves is considered another strategy.

In this regard, planning for the use of associated petroleum gases and renewable gases is also considered as actions to reduce imbalance. For instance, the use of wastewater gases and biogas in some areas can serve as a complementary source.

Managing gas imbalance in winter not only helps ensure energy supply during the cold season but can also lead to improvements in the country's energy economy. Given the high capacity of gas and oil fields, creating a balance between energy production and consumption is of special importance.

The drafting of these scenarios is carried out jointly by the National Iranian Gas Company and the Ministry of Oil, with the goal of reducing dependence on imports and increasing self-sufficiency in energy supply. Considering the geographical conditions and seasonal needs, these programs require precise implementation and continuous monitoring.
