Cavotec and EVIAS have introduced their electric vehicle charging technology to ports around the world by signing an exclusive distribution agreement. This technology allows electric vehicles to be charged while in motion, which helps increase equipment efficiency and saves space in busy ports.
Technology and Equipment Development
With this agreement, Cavotec becomes the exclusive distributor and installer of EVIAS technology for the port sector worldwide. This offering will be marketed under the joint brand “Cavotec powered by EVIAS.”

This collaboration responds to the growing need for the electrification of horizontal transport in ports, driven by container terminals' efforts to improve operational efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. The Zero Emission Port Alliance estimates that between 33,000 and 47,000 new electric battery vehicles will be ordered for container transport from 2025 to 2035.
Charging System and Safety
EVIAS technology is a conductive charging system designed for intensive fleet operations. A robotic arm mounted on the vehicle automatically connects to the charging rail located on the road, allowing for electricity transfer while in motion or during container loading waits. The modular design of this system is optimized for safety, as only the rail section under the vehicle being charged is electrified, and it is also suitable for easy integration with existing port infrastructures.
This solution reduces the downtime of charging vehicles and, in turn, requires less space with parked vehicles at any given moment.
This collaboration combines Cavotec's global presence and its long-standing experience in electrification and port automation with EVIAS's patented technology. This partnership enables Cavotec to expand its services to the electrification of horizontal transport in port terminals and build upon its existing product portfolio, which includes electric solutions for cranes and ships.
