South Pars firefighters successfully restored calm to the South Pars Energy Special Economic Zone in a 12-day operation. This operation was conducted due to incidents and the potential release of hazardous gases and included gas monitoring in various areas.
Gas Monitoring and Emergency Condition Control
Javad Ghadrati, Head of Safety and Firefighting at the Senior HSE Management of the South Pars Special Economic Zone, highlighted the importance of gas monitoring in these conditions and stated: "Given the volume of smoke and released gases, there was a possibility of toxic material release, and it was necessary to continuously monitor the environmental conditions." He added that this gas monitoring is conducted by both safety and firefighting forces, and the necessary equipment for this action is provided to the teams.

Responsibilities of Safety and Firefighting Forces
Ghadrati explained that providing advice to the scene commander is among the responsibilities of safety forces in emergency situations. This capacity is defined within the crisis management structure of the region. He also referred to the readiness mechanism of safety forces and said: "In the safety watch building, a specific mechanism is defined, and the watch program for related personnel is announced weekly so that in case of an emergency, responsible forces are present on-site."
The Head of Safety and Firefighting of the organization emphasized that safety and firefighting responsibilities have been assigned to the safety department and are pursued in two sections: safety, which is more preventive, and firefighting, which is reactive and takes charge of controlling conditions and conducting operations in case of an incident.
Monitoring Safety Activities
Ghadrati continued to mention the responsibilities of the safety domain at the regional level, stating that these responsibilities are particularly carried out in overseeing the companies located in the region. He identified one of these responsibilities as auditing the safety activities of the resident companies and added: "Safety monitoring and control of activities are also conducted within the organization, which covers a wide area given the extent of the organization's activities."
He also referred to the human resources of the organization, stating: "This organization has about 4,500 personnel, of which about two-thirds are contractor forces. Monitoring contractor activities, safety control, and risk management are other responsibilities of the Senior HSE Safety Department within the organization."
Firefighting Services in Assaluyeh
Ghadrati mentioned the firefighting services in Assaluyeh, stating that the regional firefighters provide services not only for company-related missions but also in incidents outside the industrial zone. He said: "Road accidents and incidents within the cities and villages nearby are also considered within this interaction, and the colleagues of this unit perform duties beyond their organizational responsibilities in such incidents."
