India, through a government directive, reduced the export tax on diesel and jet fuel (aviation turbine fuel) starting October 1, 2023. This tax reduction is part of the government's efforts to regulate the domestic market and support fuel exports.
Details of the Tax Reduction
According to this directive, the export tax on diesel has been reduced to 16 rupees (approximately $0.19) per liter from the previous rate of 20 rupees (approximately $0.24). Additionally, the export tax on jet fuel has been lowered to 10.5 rupees (approximately $0.13) per liter, down from 15 rupees (approximately $0.18).

Impacts on the Energy Market
This move, especially at a time when global energy prices are fluctuating, could have significant impacts on India's energy market. With the reduction of these taxes, it is expected that exports of diesel and jet fuel will increase, thereby contributing to the country's foreign exchange earnings. Furthermore, this policy may lead to a decrease in transportation costs and the overall price of goods in the domestic market.
It is worth noting that the export tax on other petroleum products remains at 0.5 rupees (approximately $0.006) per liter. Therefore, India is generally striving to manage its oil and energy market in the best possible way through appropriate tax adjustments.
