HarborLab, an AI-based port cost management platform, announced the launch of DEX as a new AI assistant that automatically reviews the costs of each port in the DA accounts. This tool enables analysts to focus on items that require decision-making.
DEX Functionality and Benefits
DA analysts are skilled professionals familiar with tariffs, ports, and relevant agents. However, every line of the DA accounts receives equal attention, whether it needs attention or not. DEX changes this attention by performing routine checks, allowing analysts to start with answers and spend their time on exceptions.

Technical Details and Capabilities of DEX
DEX is integrated with HarborLab's DA assessment page and reviews port costs for commercial calls. Each port cost is reviewed based on the relevant tariffs, and parameters are compared with historical data from the final DA accounts. Each line is classified as correct, incorrect, or negotiable. Open points are consolidated into an explanatory email for the agent, and costs that comply with the company's approval rules are automatically confirmed.
Control always remains in the hands of the customer. DEX operates under the agreed rules with each company, and each step can await the evaluator or be executed automatically, depending on the company's choice. DEX never approves a DA, and every action is recorded so that teams always know what DEX has done.
HarborLab has tested DEX on its DA table before presenting it to customers. Anthony Malakianakis, founder and CEO of HarborLab, said: "Every port call ends with a DA, and every line is reviewed. DEX shifts attention to routine tasks and leaves decision-making to humans. We first implemented it on our DA table to demonstrate the standard we set for ourselves. Now we are introducing this tool to the industry."
DEX is built on the HarborLab platform, which manages over 40,000 port calls annually across more than 1,400 ports. This tool assists DA teams in commercial calls and utilizes HarborLab's existing AI tools for DA evaluation. Operators using the HarborLab platform save an average of $700 per port call, with these savings significantly increasing in larger fleets.
DA teams can register today for a live demo, and HarborLab is gradually onboarding customers starting this year.
