Fazlollah Akbari, the manager of the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company in Fars, announced a 17% increase in CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) consumption in the first six months of this year. According to Akbari, an average of 1.2 million cubic meters of CNG has been consumed daily during this period. This level of consumption has resulted in a savings of 220 million liters of gasoline, which has played a significant role in reducing air pollution in the metropolis of Shiraz.

The role of CNG in reducing air pollution

Akbari added that the use of CNG as a clean, safe, and inexpensive fuel has led to a reduction in gasoline and diesel consumption. On average, 150,000 vehicles in Fars province use this fuel daily. This consumption is supplied through 133 stations with 700 active nozzles in the province. Of the CNG stations, 85 are single-purpose, while the rest are dual-purpose, supplying gasoline and diesel in addition to CNG.

Construction of new CNG stations

The manager of the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company in Fars emphasized that 97% of CNG stations meet the necessary standards, and to enhance the quantitative and qualitative development of the CNG industry in the province, the construction of 10 new stations is underway. These measures will not only increase the supply capacity of CNG but will also help reduce air pollution and improve the quality of life for citizens.

Given the upward trend in CNG consumption and its role in reducing fossil fuel consumption, it seems that this fuel can be considered an effective solution for improving the environmental situation in metropolises, especially Shiraz.
