Ali Asghar Rajabi, the Energy and Carbon Manager of the National Iranian Gas Company, announced the start of Type One Carver implementation in the city of Sabzevar, Razavi Khorasan Province. This model of Carver is designed for managing gas consumption on a large scale and gas retailing. The main goal in this type is to reduce gas consumption in a specific area through gas purchasing and distribution management.

Differences Between Type One and Type Two Carver

Rajabi explained that Type One Carver operates based on gas retailing, while Type Two Carver focuses more on optimizing consumption. In Type Two Carver, consumption reduction is achieved through optimization projects and technology changes. For example, in residential units, poultry farms, or bakeries, optimization projects can lead to reduced gas consumption.

The Energy and Carbon Manager of the National Iranian Gas Company added that in Type One Carver, the issue of consumption management is examined on the scale of a city or a larger region. This model includes measuring the volume of gas entering the city and managing its consumption through interaction with subscribers and cooperation with local stakeholders.

Pilot Implementation of Type One Carver in Sabzevar

Rajabi, referring to the status of Type One Carver implementation, said: This model has been placed on the agenda of the National Iranian Gas Company for the first time. While Type Two Carver has made significant progress, Type One Carver is still in the early stages of implementation. The city of Sabzevar has been chosen as the first city because this region is more prepared to start the project.

In this project, Type One Carver companies can start their activities after purchasing gas from the energy exchange. Several other areas have also been identified for pilot implementation, but the final selection will be based on the ability to accurately measure gas flow and the capability to separate consumption.

Rajabi stated: In Sabzevar, there are various categories of subscribers, including residential, agricultural, industrial, and educational, and the share of each in gas consumption is specified. The goal is to direct the gas released from non-productive sectors to productive units such as petrochemicals and industries.

The Energy and Carbon Manager of the National Iranian Gas Company, explaining the economic mechanism of the project, noted that the volume of gas needed for the region will be offered in the energy exchange, and licensed companies will compete to purchase it. Therefore, applicants in this field must have significant financial capacity.

In the first phase of this project, the volume of capital required for gas purchasing is considerable, and for this reason, large companies with appropriate financial capacity are the main applicants for participation in this sector. Rajabi added: Large industrial companies such as steel and petrochemical firms or large holdings may have more motivation to enter this process.

Goals and Vision of Type One Carver

The goal of Type One Carver is to change the consumption pattern and direct gas from non-productive units to productive units. Companies that can provide more gas for their production activities through consumption management will benefit from this process. Additionally, Type One Carver can leverage the capacity of Type Two Carvers and, in collaboration with producers and implementers in the field of gas consumption optimization, take effective actions.

Rajabi emphasized that Type One Carver has no limitations in choosing consumption management methods and will use various technical, managerial, and economic tools to reduce consumption and direct the released gas towards productive sectors.
