In an interview with Shana news agency, Farhad Shahroki pointed out the historical formation of the Ministry of Oil, stating that oil is not merely a source of income for Iran, but rather a part of the country's economic power and energy security. Therefore, the existence of a specialized and powerful institution to manage this sector is considered a strategic necessity.

Establishment of the Ministry of Oil and Its Goals

Shahroki added: The establishment of the Ministry of Oil in the early years after the revolution (October 8, 1979) aimed to create coherence in the management of the oil industry and to exercise national sovereignty over the resources and activities of this industry. Subsequently, various laws defined the duties and powers of this ministry in accordance with the country's needs.

Today's Missions of the Ministry of Oil

The Vice Chairman of the Energy Commission of the Parliament stated: Today, the mission of the Ministry of Oil goes far beyond the production and export of crude oil. The development of oil and gas fields, increasing refining and petrochemical capacity, ensuring sustainable fuel supply, expanding gas distribution, optimizing energy consumption, developing investment, and protecting shared fields are all part of the energy governance framework of the country.

Shahroki continued: Recent years' experience has shown that whenever the oil industry has operated with coherent management, quick decision-making, and coordination between the government and parliament, it has been able to maintain production and energy supply in the face of external limitations and pressures.

He said: The Ministry of Oil today must transform from a solely executive body into a leading institution in energy governance, an institution that simultaneously pursues increased production, infrastructure development, efficiency, reducing energy imbalance, and attracting investment.

The Role of Parliament in Supporting the Ministry of Oil

The Vice Chairman of the Energy Commission of the Parliament emphasized: The parliament, within the framework of its legal duties, supports the Ministry of Oil in removing obstacles to production and investment. However, alongside support, close supervision over the implementation of laws and the use of resources is also a necessity.

Shahroki stated: The oil industry is a national asset belonging to all the people of Iran, and decisions in this area must be made with a long-term perspective, expertise, and with the aim of strengthening national interests.
