Mohammad Sadegh Azimi Far, CEO of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company, announced today (Tuesday, October 6) that CNG consumption in the country has experienced a 12% increase compared to the same period last year. This increase in consumption indicates positive changes in consumer behavior and a willingness to use alternative fuels.

Decrease in Gasoline Consumption and Fuel Management

Azimi Far also noted that gasoline consumption during this time has decreased by 3% compared to last year. He emphasized that these changes are due to the gradual implementation of reforms in fuel consumption policies designed to manage and clarify consumption. He added: "By correcting consumer behavior, fuel consumption can gradually be optimized."

New Plans for Fuel Consumption Transparency

The CEO of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company also announced the design of a series of plans for managing fuel consumption. These plans will be implemented in phases, and after receiving feedback, any issues will be addressed and extended to a larger statistical community. Azimi Far referred to transparency in refueling and said: "Currently, about 40% of the country's gasoline consumption is done with emergency cards at stations, which brings along some problems."

He added: "Emergency cards are in the possession of station owners, and this can lead to monopolization and a lack of transparency in refueling." According to Azimi Far, transparency in refueling is of special importance, and identifying consumers and the amount of fuel they refuel must be done accurately.

Preparedness for the Cold Season and Liquid Fuel Supply

The CEO of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company also referred to the conditions of fuel storage for power plants and said: "Given the exacerbation of gas imbalance in the cold season due to war damages, supplying liquid fuel to power plants will be one of the solutions for the stability of the country's electricity network." He added: "Stored power plant oil and gas is a suitable backup for entering the cold season."

Azimi Far also emphasized synergy between the Ministry of Oil and the Ministry of Energy and said: "We hope that with the total measures designed in various sectors, we will successfully get through this winter." He referred to the role of consumption management in passing through the cold season and stated that a 10% optimization in gas consumption could ensure the sustainable supply of gas to various sectors.

Reduction of Smuggling and Fuel Diversion

The CEO of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company concluded by referring to the measures taken to combat smuggling and fuel diversion and said: "We have been able to reduce diesel consumption by about 6% compared to 2024 and guide the country towards diesel exports." He added that the Anti-Smuggling Headquarters has reported that most fuel diversion occurs in the diesel sector, and this requires serious oversight and management.
