The cyber group known as 'Predatory Sparrow' has recently focused more on the country's critical infrastructure, especially in the oil and petrochemical industry. This group, which is supported by the Israeli regime, has raised increasing concerns regarding the security of Iran's energy infrastructure.

Cyber Threats and Vulnerabilities in the Energy Sector

According to available information, the activities of this group in recent weeks have particularly concentrated on companies active in the energy sector, and its name has been mentioned in connection with cyber threats in various economic sectors. Recent reports indicate the likelihood of this group's activities expanding into the electricity, refining, and petrochemical sectors.

Jam Petrochemical Company, represented by the symbol 'Jam', reported a net profit of 4,774 billion tomans in its six-month report ending in September 2026. This figure highlights the strategic importance of this company in the country's energy supply chain and simultaneously increases its vulnerability to cyber threats.

Necessary Actions to Strengthen Cybersecurity

Companies active in the energy supply chain face serious risks from cyber attacks due to their reliance on industrial control systems, operational networks, and digital infrastructure. Disruption in these systems can have significant impacts on production, operational processes, and equipment safety.

Therefore, strengthening the security of industrial networks and separating operational networks from administrative networks is essential. Updating systems, continuously monitoring suspicious activities, and implementing regular backup and data recovery programs are among the actions that can significantly reduce the risk of cyber attacks.

Given the strategic importance of the oil and petrochemical industry in the country's economy, preparedness against cyber attacks should become one of the main priorities of risk management for companies in this sector. Additionally, coordination between IT units, industrial security, and crisis management plays a crucial role in quickly identifying threats and limiting potential consequences.

As reports of increasing cyber threats against energy infrastructure are published, continuous assessment of vulnerabilities and strengthening defensive mechanisms can help protect critical infrastructure and ensure production continuity.
