The Deputy Minister of Oil and the CEO of the National Petrochemical Company, on the second day of their visit to the Mahshahr special economic zone, visited the Karun, Amir Kabir, and Razi petrochemical complexes. This visit aimed to assess the current status and the reconstruction process of the damaged petrochemicals in this area, which have suffered serious damages due to recent incidents.

Current Status of Petrochemical Complexes

The Karun petrochemical complex, with an annual production capacity of 1.2 million tons of ethylene, is considered one of the largest units in this region. Due to the high importance of ethylene production in the petrochemical supply chain, it is prioritized for reconstruction. Additionally, the Amir Kabir petrochemical complex, which produces polyethylene with a capacity of 300,000 tons per year, is also under assessment for damages and planning for reconstruction.

The Razi petrochemical complex, with a production capacity of 1.5 million tons of ammonia and 2 million tons of urea, is recognized as one of the key complexes in meeting the domestic and export needs of the country. During this visit, the Deputy Minister of Oil emphasized the need to expedite the reconstruction process of these complexes and called for the cooperation of all relevant organizations to improve the current conditions.

Economic and Social Implications of Reconstruction

The reconstruction of the Mahshahr petrochemical complexes will not only help meet domestic market needs but can also lead to an increase in the export of petrochemical products. This, in turn, will have a direct impact on the economic growth of the region and reduce unemployment. Given the high production capacity of these complexes, returning to normal conditions could bring about a positive transformation in the country's petrochemical industry.

At the end of this visit, the Deputy Minister of Oil emphasized the key role of the petrochemical industry in the country's economic development and stated: "Attention to improving infrastructure and reconstructing damaged complexes is a priority for the government that must be pursued vigorously." These remarks reflect the serious determination of the Ministry of Oil to enhance production levels and meet the country's needs in the petrochemical sector.
