Saeed Tavakoli, the CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company, reported on the performance of the gas industry in the first six months of this year, detailing the status of gas supply in the country. Despite a decrease in gas production at the South Pars field and a roughly 14% drop in the volume of gas delivered to the network, gas supply for various sectors of the country continued with prioritization and network management.

Increase in Gas Delivered to Industries

Tavakoli further noted that in the first half of this year, the volume of gas delivered to industries and small businesses was one billion cubic meters more than the same period last year. This indicates a continuous effort to maintain gas supply under challenging conditions.

Gas Supply for Major Industries

The CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company emphasized that there have been no restrictions on gas supply for major industries, especially steel and petrochemical units. Although some of these industries faced challenges due to recent events and what he termed the "third imposed war," the continuity of gas supply to these industries amid production reductions and infrastructure challenges was a result of effective network management and prioritization of consumption.

Tavakoli also mentioned that regarding fuel supply for power plants, despite a decrease in the volume of gas delivered to the network in the first half of this year, the share of gas in the fuel mix for power plants was maintained at nearly the same level as last year. According to him, in the first six months of this year, about 85% of the fuel mix needs for power plants were met through gas, compared to 86% in the same period last year.

Refinery Challenges and Energy Supply

He noted that maintaining this level of gas supply to power plants under difficult production conditions was a result of prioritization in fuel supply and efforts to prevent exacerbating electricity imbalances. The state of the country's refineries after recent events posed challenges to sustainable energy supply, but the national gas network managed to maintain gas flow in various sectors.

According to Tavakoli, despite the difficult production conditions and imposed restrictions, the gas industry has strived to sustain gas flow in the power generation, industrial, and production sectors of the country to minimize disruptions to economic activities.

The statistics announced by the National Iranian Gas Company indicate that in the first half of this year, although the overall volume of gas delivered to the network has decreased, through consumption management and prioritization of uses, the amount of gas supplied to industries and power plants has been maintained at a high level.
