The Russian government, following fuel shortages caused by attacks in the Ukraine war, has decided to extend the diesel export ban until the end of October this year (2023). This action was taken during a meeting chaired by Alexander Novak, the Deputy Prime Minister and head of the oil sector in the country. Currently, the existing diesel export ban is valid until the end of September 2023.
Reasons for Extending the Export Ban
Russia is facing fuel shortages due to damage inflicted by drone attacks on its oil refineries. Out of the 6 major diesel-producing refineries in Russia, 3 have significantly reduced or halted production in September due to damages from these attacks. This situation has directly impacted fuel supply within the country and compelled the government to make such a decision.
