The petrochemical industry of Iran, as one of the key economic sectors of the country, is facing serious challenges from regulatory bodies. In recent years, there have been many criticisms regarding the performance of these bodies in managing and overseeing petrochemical companies. One of the issues that has recently gained attention is the matter of extortion from boards of directors for the appointment of specific individuals, especially from Gulf countries, such as Bahrain.

Management and Financial Challenges

Extortion and pressure on boards of directors, especially in the current economic conditions where the value of the dollar has sharply increased, have raised concerns among petrochemical industry stakeholders. Experts in this field believe that these issues could lead to a decrease in the efficiency and productivity of companies. For example, large petrochemical fields like the South Pars field, with a daily production capacity of over 180 million cubic meters of gas, require transparent and efficient management to achieve their production and export goals.

Additionally, problems arising from economic instabilities and lack of transparency in petrochemical operations have somewhat weakened Iran's position in global markets. Given the high production capacities of the country's petrochemical sector, these crises could have serious repercussions for the future of the industry.

Need for Structural Reforms

In this context, it seems that there is an increasing need for structural reforms in regulatory bodies as well as in the management of the petrochemical industry. These reforms could include improving the processes of selecting and appointing managers, increasing financial transparency, and also more precise oversight of company performance. Otherwise, the future of Iran's petrochemical industry will face serious risks.
