The future price of rebar in the Chinese market reached 3,109 yuan (approximately 431 dollars) per ton, marking the highest level in the past week. This price increase comes as data from the World Steel Association shows that global crude steel production in August of this year decreased by 1.2 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 144.2 million tons.
Decline in Steel Production in China
Global crude steel production also decreased by 3.3 percent compared to July, reaching 149.2 million tons in July. This production decline is particularly due to a 2.3 million ton reduction in steel production in China, which accounts for nearly half of the global decrease. Nevertheless, China remains the largest steel producer in the world, holding a 51.7 percent share of global production.

Challenges Facing China's Steel Industry
China's steel industry faces multiple challenges, including weak demand and declining profitability for factories. A prolonged slump in the housing sector has significantly impacted rebar consumption, leading to a sharp decline in new construction activities and demand from developers.
This situation reflects the ongoing structural challenges in China's steel industry, which is influenced by economic fluctuations and changes in market demand. While prices are rising, demand for rebar and other steel products remains under pressure.
Additionally, markets in China will be closed from October 1 to 7 for the national holiday, which may affect future developments in this market. This holiday could lead to a lack of immediate demand in the market and impact price trends.
