Nima Zakeri Saeed, an artist and trade activist in the handicrafts sector, referred to the challenges in this industry due to rising raw material prices and tax pressures. The handicrafts market, which once reminded of the art and creativity of Iranians, is now affected by inflation and multiple restrictions.
Rising Costs and Decreased Sales
Zakeri Saeed stated that the increase in prices has affected almost all branches of handicrafts, adding: "When everything becomes expensive, it is natural that the prices of products in this sector also rise. Products that were previously sold at reasonable prices are now becoming expensive for customers due to increased production costs."

He also mentioned that the market for low-priced products, especially items under one million tomans, has attracted buyers' attention more than ever. This shift in consumer preferences poses a serious challenge for artists whose products are offered in traditional ways and at higher prices.
Tax and Insurance Challenges
This trade activist criticized the imposition of income tax on some artists, saying: "According to Article 142 of the Direct Taxation Law, handicraft artists are exempt from taxes, but this exemption does not apply to all branches, and artists not listed in the specified list face heavy taxes."
Zakeri Saeed also referred to the increase in insurance costs, stating: "The insurance costs for artists have increased by about 100 to 120 percent this year. This increase, without clear and transparent explanations, puts more pressure on artists."
He also mentioned new restrictions on artists' participation in exhibitions, saying: "According to a recently proposed law, handicraft artists can only participate in two exhibitions. This limitation severely affects the economic activities of artists."
With rising costs and existing restrictions, the future of handicrafts and the artists in this field is at serious risk. Zakeri Saeed emphasized the need for effective measures to support these artists so they can continue their activities in difficult economic conditions.
