Last week, the maritime transportation industry witnessed new agreements for the construction of cargo and tanker ships. These contracts were particularly signed by various companies in the cargo and tanker ship sectors, indicating high demand for these types of vessels.

New Contracts in the Cargo Ship Sector

Yangzijiang Maritime recently signed a contract for the construction of 4+2 cargo ships with a capacity of 82,000 deadweight tons with Jiangsu Watts & Engineering. The delivery of these ships is scheduled for March and June 2028. Additionally, Eurodry has also signed a contract for the construction of 3 cargo ships with similar capacity at Hengli Heavy Industries, each priced at approximately $37 million, with delivery set for September 2029.

Increased Demand for Tankers

Last week's agreements also included significant contracts in the tanker sector. Liquimar Tankers signed a contract for the construction of 3 tankers with a capacity of 157,000 deadweight tons at Jiangsu New Hantong. The delivery of these tankers is scheduled between June 2029 and June 2030. Furthermore, Top Ships has also signed a contract for the construction of 4 tankers with a capacity of 50,000 deadweight tons at the Guangzhou shipyard, with delivery also set for June 2029.

In another development, Emarat Maritime has signed a contract for the construction of 5 tankers with a capacity of 74,000 deadweight tons at Jiangsu Hantong Shipbuilding. The price of each of these tankers is estimated at approximately $55 million, with delivery expected between June 2029 and December 2030.

Stability in Ship Values

Veson Nautical also reported that the value of cargo ships remained generally stable last week. The report mentioned the sale of various ships, including the Capesize Pan Advance with a capacity of 179,200 deadweight tons sold for $37 million to Greek buyers. Other ships such as Panamax Wei He and Ultramax Bulk Guatemala have also been sold.

Overall, these developments indicate a positive and growing trend in the maritime transportation industry, especially in the cargo and tanker ship sectors, which are facing increased demand and new contracts.
