National Iranian Gas Company conducted the first gas transaction for Sabzevar in the energy exchange, with the delivery taking place at the first delivery point in Sabzevar. The volume of gas offered was equivalent to the total monthly consumption of 21 CNG stations, amounting to approximately 44 million cubic meters. The base price for this offering was set at 6,211 rials per cubic meter.

A Novel Transaction in the Energy Market

This transaction is considered the first gas offering within the framework of Type One Operator (retail) in the Iranian energy exchange and can be a step towards operationalizing new gas market mechanisms and utilizing the capacity of the private sector in the supply and consumption chain. Saeed Tavakoli, CEO of National Iranian Gas Company, pointed out that the gas operator scheme is designed to provide the groundwork for private sector economic participation in consumption management, optimizing development, and helping to reduce gas imbalance.

Development of the Gas Retail Market

In the Type One Operator model, the retailer receives gas at a specified delivery point and provides it to end consumers. Tavakoli regarded the offering of Sabzevar gas in the energy exchange as one of the operational steps in forming the gas retail market in the country, adding that this market, with increased transaction transparency and enabling more active participation from the private sector, can create new capacities for managing gas supply and consumption.

The Deputy Minister of Oil for Gas Affairs also referred to the development of gas savings certificate transactions in the energy exchange. In recent transactions in this market, the price of each cubic meter of gas savings certificate peaked at 750,000 rials. This indicates the gradual formation of economic value for gas savings and the development of market-oriented tools in this area.

Tavakoli emphasized that National Iranian Gas Company is pursuing the development of these tools within the framework of new consumption management policies and utilizing the economic capacities of the market. This approach can turn optimization of consumption and gas savings, alongside reduced consumption, into an economic opportunity for investors and the private sector.
