Mohsen Paknejad, the Minister of Oil, announced that diesel imports to the country have been completely halted following increased production in refining complexes. This action is a result of enhanced crude oil feedstock and changes in the processing mechanisms of refineries, leading to a reduction in dependence on diesel purchases from abroad.
Domestic Production and Ending Dependence
The Minister of Oil stated in this regard: "Iran was a diesel importer until the middle of last year, but with the increase in crude oil feedstock for refineries and changes in processing mechanisms, the import of this product has been halted for some time now." According to him, these changes have enabled Iran to achieve self-sufficiency in diesel production.

Persian Gulf Mehr Refinery and Capacity Increase
With the inauguration of the Persian Gulf Mehr Refinery, which is expected to be operational by the end of the year, the country's fuel production capacity will significantly increase. This refinery has been designed and constructed to meet domestic needs and reduce dependence on imports. With the operation of this refinery, diesel production capacity will increase dramatically.
The halt of diesel imports, in addition to positively impacting the country's trade balance, could also lead to a reduction in the price of this product in the domestic market. However, it is necessary to make the required plans for managing the production and distribution of this product to prevent shortages in the future.
In this regard, the Ministry of Oil intends to continuously increase fossil fuel production by enhancing technology and improving processes. This action will not only help achieve self-sufficiency in diesel production but will also create jobs and increase productivity in related industries.
