Masoud Pezeshkian today (Monday, October 25) announced before his trip to Russia to attend and speak at the 8th Summit of Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) that the Islamic Republic of Iran has been a founding member of this forum since 2006.
Composition of the Forum and Its Role in the Global Energy Market
This forum includes 12 main member countries and 8 observer countries, whose member states hold over 70% of the world's gas and play a key role in managing and supplying global energy. Pezeshkian referred to regional developments and the impact of insecurities on energy transit routes, stating that the actions of the United States and its support for the Zionist regime have led to increased insecurities, affecting the entire world.
The Necessity of Security and Cooperation in Energy Transit Routes
At the eighth summit, topics such as ensuring the security of energy transit routes and guaranteeing the freedom of trade will be discussed. He emphasized that countries must adopt effective solutions to existing problems through cooperation and understanding. Pezeshkian also pointed to the potential for cooperation among gas-producing and exporting countries, stating that achieving strategic agreements could strengthen the global energy market.
He also considered meetings with the leaders of the countries present at this summit and discussions with Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, as other opportunities of this trip. Pezeshkian emphasized that the relations between the two countries are at a desirable level and there is a need to develop bilateral cooperation in various fields.
In conclusion, Pezeshkian criticized the instrumental use of the dollar in the international financial system, stating that this cannot continue, as many countries oppose unilateralism. According to statistics, the member countries of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum collectively hold about 70% of the world's proven natural gas reserves and 42% of its exports.
The 8th Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum will be held on Tuesday (October 26) in Moscow and will provide an opportunity to discuss strategic issues in the gas industry and strengthen cooperation among gas-producing and exporting countries.
