Iraj Gashmardi, the HSE Manager of Laavan Oil Refinery, referred to the damage to part of the facilities of this refinery during the third imposed war and emphasized that the readiness of human resources, firefighting equipment, and the continuous holding of emergency drills played a significant role in managing the incident and preventing human casualties.

A Bitter Experience and the Most Hopeful Point

Gashmardi considered this incident one of the most difficult and bitter experiences of his career and added: "The most hopeful point in this situation was the absence of human casualties." He stated that after the occurrence of this incident, the firefighting, operations, maintenance, human resources, security, and other units were present on-site continuously and around the clock, working to protect the staff and facilities and to maintain the refinery's operations.

Readiness and Coordination in Emergency Management

The HSE Manager of Laavan Oil Refinery also emphasized the readiness of the firefighting and HSE teams for managing emergency situations and said: "Readiness in the HSE field is a necessity, and continuous training, holding fire extinguishing drills, practicing emergency scenarios, ensuring equipment readiness, and human resource preparedness must always be at the highest level."

Gashmardi considered management and scene command as important factors in controlling incidents and emphasized that coordination among units and the promptness of forces can be effective in containing the incident and preventing its consequences from spreading. He also assessed the support and presence of the company's CEO during the crisis as effective and added: "Management support and the presence of managers alongside employees played a significant role in coordinating actions, boosting the morale of firefighters, and overcoming emergency conditions."

Gashmardi pointed out the role of the crisis management officer and managers of various units in coordinating and managing situations, stating: "The experience of this incident once again highlighted the importance of preparedness, coordination, promptness, and teamwork." He regarded the solidarity of Laavan refinery employees as an effective factor in managing the incident and said: "All units came together in this situation and worked with a sense of responsibility to protect employees, safeguard the facilities, and ensure the continuity of oil production in the country."

The HSE Manager of Laavan Oil Refinery concluded by noting that the knowledge and experience of the personnel, along with appropriate support and management, provided the groundwork for reconstruction, returning conditions to normal, and continuing production. Laavan Oil Refinery operates on Laavan Island and in the Persian Gulf region and plays a role in supplying part of the country's petroleum products in addition to processing crude oil. Part of the facilities of this company was damaged during the attack in Farvardin this year.
