Hamid Bord, the caretaker of the Ministry of Oil, announced on October 25, 2023, after arriving in Moscow to attend the eighth summit and the twenty-eighth ministerial meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), that the expansion of energy cooperation, especially in the gas sector, with the member countries of the forum is on the agenda. This summit, aimed at discussing issues related to the global gas market and bilateral cooperation, provides a suitable opportunity for dialogue and interaction between gas-producing and exporting countries.
Details of the meeting and its objectives
The GECF meeting serves as an important platform for gas-producing countries, aimed at examining the challenges and opportunities present in the global gas market. In this meeting, representatives from various countries will discuss pricing, infrastructure development, and strengthening bilateral cooperation. This forum includes 19 countries that collectively hold 70 percent of the world's natural gas reserves.

Hamid Bord emphasized the importance of developing gas fields and increasing gas production capacity at this meeting, stating: "GECF member countries should seek to enhance technology exchange and investment in joint projects through closer cooperation." He also referred to the potentials of Iran's gas fields and announced the country's plans to increase gas production from shared fields.
Consequences of gas cooperation
The development of energy cooperation with GECF member countries can have positive consequences for the country's economy. Given that Iran has the largest natural gas reserves in the world, increased cooperation with other producing countries can lead to improved economic conditions and increased gas exports. Bord also announced plans for the optimal use of natural gas resources to meet domestic needs and export to other countries.
Considering recent developments in the energy market and the rising global demand for natural gas, Iran has a suitable opportunity to enhance its position in international markets. Ultimately, Bord highlighted the importance of international cooperation in this area, stating that the Ministry of Oil is seeking to create favorable conditions for investment in gas projects and increase production.
