In Port Klang, Malaysia, fuel supply remains limited. VLSFO is severely unavailable, and LSMGO supply is also facing restrictions. In East Asia, the supply situation in Zhoushan, China, is similar, with delivery times for VLSFO, LSMGO, and HSFO estimated at around 10 days.
Fuel supply in this region is under pressure due to weather problems caused by storms and frequent tropical systems. Fuel supply operations in Zhoushan were halted for nearly two weeks due to Storm Dolphin, and subsequently disrupted again due to Storm Saudel.
Supply challenges in Japan and South Korea
The fuel market in Japan is under severe pressure, and fuel supply is highly restricted. Marine fuel loading for September has drastically decreased and is nearly inaccessible. Meanwhile, in South Korea, demand for VLSFO has increased, with prices reaching about $970 per ton.
In Busan and Ulsan, weather conditions are expected to negatively impact fuel supply between September 16 and 23. Additionally, there is a possibility of disruption in fuel supply in Yeosu and Daesan as well.
While supply conditions in the southern ports of South Korea have improved and delivery times have decreased to 6 to 10 days, weather disruptions are expected to impact these conditions again.
