Eni SpA and Repsol SA are exploring options to attract foreign investors for the Perla gas field off the coast of Venezuela. This gas field, which is considered one of the largest natural gas fields in the region, has high production capacity and could help further develop Venezuela's energy resources.
Current status of the Perla field
Eni and Repsol each own 50 percent of this project and are evaluating the sale of part of their stakes to attract more investment. Informed sources have stated that this investment is essential for the development of the Perla field and increasing gas production. Given that Venezuela has vast oil and gas reserves, developing this field could help improve the economic situation of the country.

International collaborations and future plans
Last month, Venezuela and the United States signed agreements with major oil companies including Chevron Corp and GE Vernova Inc to increase oil production. At the same time, Eni and Repsol signed an agreement with Caracas aimed at starting gas exports from the country by the end of 2031. This agreement is part of reviving previous efforts to develop the Perla field and increase the production capacity of this gas field in the Gulf of Venezuela.
The goal of these two companies is to double production from this field and export gas in the form of LNG (liquefied natural gas) from a floating terminal. Such actions could pave the way for improving Venezuela's energy export situation and help the country better utilize its vast gas reserves.
