Kempower, a leading provider of DC fast charging solutions for electric vehicles, and EVlution Charge, the official sales and service partner of the company in Canada, announced the establishment of electric charging infrastructure at the Global Container Terminals (GCT) located in Vancouver Port. This port is considered one of the largest ports in Canada, and this infrastructure supports the electrification of GCT's service vehicle fleet and the daily operational needs of the terminal.
Project Details and Benefits
Key Ron Harwood, GCT's Chief Technology Officer, stated: "After a thorough technical and operational assessment, GCT chose Kempower for its charging density, reliability, and flexibility to support 24/7 terminal operations. This system enables opportunistic charging during shift changes and break times, helping to maximize equipment availability and minimize operational disruptions." He also added: "We recently demonstrated this capability through a successful trial of a heavy electric tractor in round-the-clock operations that solely utilizes opportunistic charging. With nearly 100 percent uptime and excellent support from Kempower and EVlution, we look forward to expanding our charging infrastructure."
Impact on GCT's Sustainability Goals
This site, which includes 21 dual charging stations from Kempower, provides 42 fast charging outlets and 2.05 megawatts of available charging power. These chargers are currently active and assist GCT's electric service vehicles in achieving their sustainability goals of reducing absolute greenhouse gas emissions by 45 percent by 2030.
The development of this infrastructure contributes to Kempower's growing portfolio in terminal and port operations.
