This week, the LNG market faced considerable pressure, despite emerging reciprocal demands from the Gulf of America and West Africa. As contract deadlines approach in November and December, the supply of vessels continues to exceed the demand for cargoes, which has contributed to limiting the usual increase in freight rates during this time.

Rate Decrease in LNG Freight Routes

On the BLNG1 route from Australia to Japan, rates fell by $2,700 compared to last week, reaching $27,600 per day. The Pacific market remains competitive for shipowners, with a large number of vessels available compared to the limited number of cargoes.

On the BLNG2 route from the Gulf of America to the continent, rates reached $21,200 per day, reflecting a decrease of $200. Despite increased reciprocal requests, the sufficient availability of vessels and charterers' willingness to be flexible in the East or West have kept rates relatively stable.

Similarly, on the BLNG3 route from the Gulf of America to Japan, rates decreased by $800 to $49,000 per day. Long-distance transportation needs still exist, but the lack of a sustainable arbitrage in the East and ongoing competition among vessels have limited support for rates.

LPG Market Conditions

In the LPG market, this week saw a somewhat calmer situation following strong increases last week, as arbitrage has been limited and further increases have been curtailed. However, sentiment remains strong, and the cargo list appears tight, helping to limit negative pressure on freight rates.

On the BLPG1 route from Ras Tanura to Chiba, rates reached $263.20 per ton, with TCE earnings closing at $255,539 per day. On the BLPG2 route from Houston to Flushing, rates decreased by $7.50 to $182.33 per ton, and TCE earnings fell to $213,443 per day.

Similarly, on the BLPG3 route from Houston to Chiba, rates decreased to $333.43 per ton, and TCE earnings reached $204,369 per day. This route has decreased from last week's high levels, but sentiment remains strong.
