CMA CGM, one of the largest shipping companies, has selected 36 Wärtsilä 34DF engines to meet the needs of its new fleet. These advanced engines are designed to effectively reduce fuel consumption and keep emissions levels low during marine operations.

Benefits of Using Wärtsilä 34DF Engines

The Wärtsilä 34DF engines, with high capacities, are specifically designed for large container ships that use LNG (liquefied natural gas) as fuel. Due to their high fuel efficiency, these engines contribute significantly to reducing emissions. CMA CGM currently operates over 160 engines of this type in its fleet, and positive experiences with the performance of these engines have been a reason for their selection for the new ships.

Commitment to Reducing Environmental Footprint

Xavier Leclerc, Vice President of Renewal at CMA CGM, stated: "We have had a very positive experience with this engine. Its reliability and low emissions levels align perfectly with our long-term goal of reducing our environmental footprint." With the development of regulatory frameworks and rising fuel costs, improving energy efficiency has become one of the most effective ways for operators to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and manage lifecycle costs.

The Wärtsilä 34DF engine platform, supported by ongoing technology development and extensive service experience, allows ships to maintain efficient performance over time. Stephen Nisbet, Vice President of Energy Supply at Wärtsilä Marine, pointed out that "customers are looking for solutions that provide high fuel efficiency and reduced emissions with alternative fuels such as LNG."

In addition to supplying 36 engines, Wärtsilä will also provide sealing systems and bearings, including the reputable Airguard® sealing system. This equipment will help create pollution-free sealing and a set of bearings for the aft and forward pipes. This equipment is scheduled for delivery to the workshop in 2027.
