Aref emphasized the importance of utilizing new technologies in the oil and gas industry during the special technology development headquarters meeting he chaired. This meeting reviewed a variety of proposed packages that include 117 projects developed in collaboration with 42 organizations. The aim of these projects is to enhance the resilience of the oil and gas industry, inter-agency coordination, support for the private sector, and the development of dual-use technologies.
Goals and Priorities of Technological Projects
Among the priorities of these projects are increasing oil and gas production, completing the value chain in the refining industry, and addressing the imbalance in gasoline and diesel supply. Additionally, the revitalization of the petrochemical industry and increasing energy efficiency in the production and distribution chain are other goals of these packages. With the provision of modern drilling rigs and related equipment, the target for increasing crude oil production has been set at a minimum of 250,000 barrels per day.

These projects also aim to increase the country's foreign exchange revenues by 5 billion dollars and to implement new production technologies to optimize oil fields. The pressure enhancement project of the South Pars field is also one of the key projects that will focus on the design and development of various downhole and surface compressors. The implementation of these projects over 40 years will yield an equivalent of 500 billion dollars in excess gas production.
Energy Development and Efficiency Improvement
Aref further referred to the plans for organizing flares on land and surface storage projects for natural gas. By implementing these two projects, the annual gas supply will increase by 8 billion cubic meters, and the stability of the gas distribution network during the winter season will improve. Additionally, for the first time in the country, contracts for the pre-sale of flared gases after treatment have been concluded.
The First Vice President emphasized the key role of new technologies in reducing energy consumption and stated: "In Iran, energy consumption is 3.8 times the world average." He also called for the preparation of a comprehensive package for energy conservation and the preservation of national wealth. Aref added: "We must reduce energy consumption through cultural promotion and engaging the public."
With the implementation of energy efficiency projects, the potential to generate electricity at natural gas pressure boosting stations will be between 800 to 1,600 megawatts. These projects will also enable annual savings of 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas at pressure boosting stations and 2 billion cubic meters at South Pars refineries.
In conclusion, Aref stressed the necessity of cooperation between universities and the private sector to achieve complete self-sufficiency in the oil and gas industry, stating that the projects in this sector should be regarded as a national commitment.
