AAL Shipping Reports 19% Improvement in Fleet Efficiency

AAL Shipping has reported a 19% improvement in its Energy Efficiency Operational Indicator (EEOI) from 2023 to 2025. This indicator has decreased from 17.80 in 2023 to 14.40 in 2025, reflecting a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions per ton of cargo transported per nautical mile. This improvement demonstrates AAL's ability to manage fleet growth and increase cargo volume efficiently while reducing greenhouse gas emission intensity.

Legal and Environmental Impacts

The results presented in AAL's 2025 sustainability report have been achieved as the shipping industry adapts to a more stringent environmental landscape, including FuelEU Maritime and the European Union's greenhouse gas emissions trading system (EU ETS) and the proposed IMO Net-Zero framework. This framework is designed to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in the shipping industry by 2050 through global marine fuel standards and greenhouse gas pricing mechanisms.

Super B-Class Fleet and Operational Optimization

One of the key factors in improving efficiency is the third-generation Super B-Class fleet with a deadweight capacity of 32,000 dwt. This fleet, introduced in 2024, has a loading capacity of over 90,000 FRT and the ability to lift up to 800 tons, achieving the best energy efficiency performance among AAL's fleet. These vessels have reached an average EEOI of 4.27 in 2024 and 4.99 in 2025 while maintaining the heavy-lifting capability and operational flexibility that customers require.

In addition to modernizing its fleet, AAL continues to enhance its performance by optimizing voyages, advanced vessel monitoring, and digital technologies that support fuel efficiency and data-driven decision-making.
