Daily CNG consumption reached 16.7 million cubic meters in October 2023, showing a 14% growth compared to August. This increase in consumption is equivalent to a reduction of 2 million liters of gasoline in the country's fuel supply cycle.
The Role of CNG in Managing Oil Reserves
Given the equivalence of CNG and gasoline consumption, this increase in CNG consumption means reduced pressure on the country's refineries. Refineries are currently operating at full capacity to meet the growing demand. The replacement of clean fuel not only reduces operational pressure on refining units but also has a significant impact on managing strategic reserves of petroleum products.

Saving and Improving Infrastructure
Analysis of consumption data shows that the recent increase in CNG consumption was not solely due to the establishment of the third gasoline rate at 10,000 tomans, but also due to the organization of fuel distribution and emergency cards. For instance, in Kerman province, the elimination of emergency cards and the direct transfer of quotas to citizens' personal cards resulted in a saving of 48 million liters of gasoline from August to September.
Currently, about 4.3 million vehicles have been factory-made or converted to dual-fuel, and there is one CNG station for every 1,600 vehicles. This statistic indicates a significant capacity for CNG fuel consumption and adequate access for the vehicle fleet to use this fuel.
Free Conversion of Ride-Hailing Taxis
The plan for the free conversion of high-mileage vehicles active on ride-hailing platforms to CNG is another effective measure in this area. This plan has started in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and ride-hailing platforms, and eligible vehicle owners can register through authorized systems.
Settling claims and paying over 2,400 billion tomans of claims from the CNG industry has led to a 210% surge in the production of factory dual-fuel vehicles compared to 2024. Given this trend, CNG consumption is considered an effective tool for controlling fuel imbalance and preserving the country's reserves.
