CNG (compressed natural gas) consumption in the country has seen a significant increase following the gradual implementation of the third gasoline price reform and its rise to 10,000 tomans. Mohammad Sadegh Azimi Far, CEO of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company, announced that the average CNG consumption in the week following the implementation of this plan has reached about 2 million cubic meters per day, indicating an 11% increase compared to the first half of Shahrivar and Mordad.
Positive Impact of Increased CNG Consumption
This increase in CNG consumption clearly demonstrates the positive impact of gasoline price reform on reducing the imbalance in gasoline supply and demand, as well as decreasing reliance on imports. Given that the country has faced challenges in gasoline supply in recent years, it seems that this measure could help improve the fuel supply situation in the country.
Plan to Convert Fleet to CNG
Azimi Far also referred to the plan for the free conversion of high-mileage internet-based cargo and passenger transport fleets to CNG and stated: This plan is a priority for the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company and is currently underway. The goal of this initiative is to increase the share of natural gas in the country's fuel mix and reduce environmental pollution caused by fossil fuels.
Given these developments, it seems that the government is striving to achieve its goals in reducing gasoline consumption and improving air quality by adopting modern methods and optimizing fuel consumption. In this regard, the increase in CNG consumption can be considered an effective solution.
