Shahram Ahmadi, the HSE Director General of the Ministry of Oil, along with a group of safety managers and experts from four main companies of this ministry, visited the 28 Fath drilling rig of the National Iranian Drilling Company at the site of the shared Yadavaran oil field in Khuzestan province, to closely learn about the drilling operation processes, safety equipment, and environmental protection requirements.

Purpose of the Visit and Attendees

This visit took place on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, with the aim of gaining field knowledge of oil and gas well drilling operations. In this program, the HSE manager, the passive defense and crisis management director of the National Iranian Drilling Company, the project manager for oil projects in West Karun, and a group of related experts were also present.

Review of Safety Equipment

During this visit, the HSE Director General of the Ministry of Oil and his companions held a meeting with the head and staff of the 28 Fath drilling rig, where they expressed gratitude for their round-the-clock efforts and acknowledged the role of operational forces in advancing the production activities of the oil industry.

A significant part of this program was dedicated to visiting various sections of the drilling rig and reviewing the safety-related equipment and systems. Blowout preventers, equipment to prevent the mobile pulley box from colliding with the rig crown, electrical safety on the drilling platform, and environmental protection and waste management facilities were among the items reviewed by the visiting delegation.

Additionally, the set of equipment for dealing with hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas and parts of the rig, including generators, pumps, draw works, and other safety systems were also highlighted.

Assessment and Importance of the Visit

This visit lasted about three hours, during which exploration, the HSE manager, Makvandi, the head of the drilling rig, and Khavari, the project manager, provided explanations about the operation of the rig, sensitivities and risks of drilling operations, and potential hazards.

Compliance with safety guidelines, continuous training of personnel, the duties of safety officers, and the role of equipment installed on the rig in reducing the likelihood of accidents were also other topics discussed in this program. Attendees evaluated direct familiarity with the activities and complexities of drilling operations as one of the important aspects of this visit and, noting the difficulties and high risks of this activity, appreciated the efforts of operational forces and drillers.

This visit was conducted to enhance the field knowledge of HSE managers and experts regarding the actual conditions of drilling operations and safety requirements in the operational environments of the oil industry.
