In the first week of October 2026, the market for oil and container vessels faced an increase in values. These changes occurred particularly as demand for crude oil significantly rose due to regional unrest around the Strait of Hormuz and the Middle East. With the reopening of the East-West pipeline in Saudi Arabia and its positive impacts on crude oil flows, the market is experiencing positive developments.
Developments in the Oil Vessel Market
This week, the value of VLCCs (Very Large Crude Carriers) such as Atherina (319,500 DWT, January 2011, Hyundai Heavy Industries) was sold for $146 million. The estimated value of this vessel is $146.78 million. Additionally, the Suezmax Poros (150,200 DWT, February 2008, Universal) was sold for $80 million, with an estimated value of $74.59 million. This trend indicates high demand from buyers for oil vessels in the market.

Status of the Container Market
In the container market, values for smaller vessels are strengthening, and overall the market has stabilized. The Panamax New Wavelet (82,000 DWT, July 2021, Nantong Cosco) was sold for $42 million, with an estimated value of $38.84 million. The Kamsarmax Babitonga (81,800 DWT, October 2019, Tsuneishi Zosen) was also sold for $38.5 million to Sincere Navigation Corp. These developments reflect a positive status in the container sector and high demand for this type of vessel.
Given the shortage of available ships in the market and the increase in buyers, it seems that the trend of rising prices will continue. In this context, owners of vessels in the 2000 to 3000 TEU range remain optimistic and expect that demand for container vessels will see a significant increase in the near future.
