Ilam Gas Refinery, as one of the key centers of the country's gas industry, has taken effective steps towards increasing production and self-sufficiency in supplying vital components by utilizing the capabilities of domestic experts. Masoud Marashdi, the head of this refinery, emphasized that the implementation of reverse engineering projects and the domestic manufacturing of high-demand parts has not only broken the monopoly of foreign manufacturers but also ensured quick access to spare parts and rapid resolution of breakdowns.
Increase in Production and Achievement of New Records
Marashdi further pointed out the growth in the refinery's product output, stating: In the past year (from October 2024 to September 31, 2025), the production of natural gas increased by 21%, and the production of ethane and raw liquefied gas each rose by 17%. Additionally, the production of gas condensates recorded a 12% growth, and sulfur production surged by 29%, setting new records.

He explained that this growth in production, especially in sulfur, which is considered one of the highest quality sulfurs in the country, has a significant impact on supplying feedstock for mother industries, particularly the acid-making industry. Supplying high-quality, affordable, and sustainably accessible feedstock plays a vital role in the development of downstream industries.
Digital Transformation and Up-to-Date Projects at the Refinery
Marashdi also announced the refinery's entry into the era of digital transformation, adding that various projects are underway in the field of condition monitoring and non-destructive testing. These include the construction of a wireless ultrasonic system for online corrosion monitoring and the implementation of industrial radiography film interpretation projects (RT), which have increased defect detection accuracy by 40% and reduced inspection times to one-third.
In line with environmental responsibilities, the refinery has improved environmental standards by eliminating toxic compounds (BTEX) from industrial wastewater and constructing nano-photocatalysts. Additionally, energy management projects and the recycling of flare gases have contributed to reducing resource waste and pollutants.
Finally, Marashdi mentioned 14 active research projects valued at 68 billion rials, which have led to a reduction in dependence on imports and support for domestic knowledge-based companies. These efforts, alongside increasing productivity and product quality, will pave the way for sustainable development at Ilam Gas Refinery.
