Union Rail, the developer and operator of the UAE's national rail network, and AD Ports Group, a global provider of integrated commercial, industrial, and logistics solutions, have recently launched direct rail services between Fujairah terminals and Abu Dhabi Industrial City (ICAD).
Development of Rail Logistics Services
This integrated logistics solution connects one of the eastern maritime gateways of the UAE in the Gulf of Oman to the industrial heart of the country in Abu Dhabi. The services include a dedicated rail freight service and an inland cargo gateway with customs capabilities designed to bring trade closer to customers.

With the development of these services, cargo arriving at Fujairah terminals can be directly transported to ICAD, approximately 200 kilometers away, where customers can access customs clearance, inspection, and cargo release services.
ICAD's Role in International Logistics
A significant milestone in launching these services is the assignment of the UN LOCODE “AECAD” to ICAD, which recognizes it as an internationally recognized logistics location in global transport and trade systems. For the first time, shipping lines, freight forwarders, and cargo owners can register cargo directly to ICAD as a destination and clearance point.
This solution also helps importers, exporters, manufacturers, distributors, and logistics service providers in Abu Dhabi receive their cargo closer to warehouses and end markets. The new service offers customers reliable scheduling, reduced road traffic, and lower carbon emissions compared to traditional transportation.
The services operate three times a week between Fujairah terminals and ICAD, enhancing multi-modal cargo flows in this corridor. Omar Al-Subaei, CEO of Union Rail, stated that these services are an important step in fully leveraging the potential of the UAE's national rail network for customers.
