Turkey will receive part of the diesel that Russia is set to supply to global markets under an agreement with the United States. Turkey's Energy Minister, Alparslan Bayraktar, commented on the importance of this agreement for Turkey's energy security in an interview with the television network "Channel 7".

Diversity of Energy Supply Sources

Bayraktar explained that Turkey relies on Russia, Iran, Azerbaijan, and other countries to meet part of its energy needs and is working to diversify its energy supply sources by signing contracts with the United States and other partners. He also mentioned the recent restrictions on Russian diesel exports and added that the country has now reached an agreement with the United States for diesel supply.

Future Plans for Gas Production

Bayraktar also referred to Turkey's plan to launch a second floating gas production platform in the first quarter of 2028. With the launch of this platform, Turkey's total daily gas production in the Black Sea will reach 45 million cubic meters. Meanwhile, the first floating gas production platform of Turkey, named "Osman Ghazi," has been dispatched to the Black Sea, and it is expected that daily gas production from the Sakarya field, Turkey's largest gas field, will reach 20 million cubic meters; a figure equivalent to 7.3 billion cubic meters per year.

Bayraktar emphasized that the second floating gas production platform, with a capacity of 25 million cubic meters per day, will be slightly larger than the Osman Ghazi platform. With a capacity of 45 million cubic meters, Turkey will be able to use domestically produced gas in three out of every four homes.

The Turkish Energy Minister further stated that with the establishment of the second floating platform, the country's daily production in the Sakarya field will reach 550,000 barrels of oil equivalent. Turkey, as one of Europe's largest gas markets, consumed 59 billion cubic meters of gas last year and is almost entirely dependent on imports to meet its gas needs.

Turkey's total gas production last year reached 3.1 billion cubic meters, most of which was extracted from the Sakarya field. Bayraktar also reported delays in hydrocarbon exploration operations in Pakistan's waters due to the repercussions of the U.S. and Israeli regime's war against Iran.
