TotalEnergies, along with its partners, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) and XRG, has made the final investment decision (FID) for the full development of the Absheron gas and condensate field off the coast of Azerbaijan. This project, planned to be operational by 2029, will increase the overall production capacity of Absheron to 6 billion cubic meters of gas and 47,000 barrels per day of condensate.
Details of the Absheron Project
The Absheron gas field, located in the Caspian Sea about 100 kilometers southeast of Baku, has recoverable gas reserves of approximately 140 billion cubic meters. TotalEnergies holds a 35 percent stake and is responsible for the operation of this field, while SOCAR and XRG hold 35 and 30 percent stakes, respectively.

The full development of the Absheron field includes four subsea wells that will connect to a subsea pipeline and link to a new processing plant onshore. This plant will be fully electric and will include automation and energy efficiency technologies.
Meeting Domestic Needs and Exports
The gas produced from the Absheron field will be supplied to the domestic market of Azerbaijan and will also be exported to Turkey and European gas markets through existing infrastructure. The first phase of the Absheron field development began production in 2023 and has a capacity of 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas and 12,000 barrels per day of condensate. This phase includes a subsea production well that connects to a dedicated gas processing platform and existing SOCAR facilities in the "Oil Rocks" area.
Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, referred to the development of the Absheron field as a project that unlocks the full production potential of one of the largest gas discoveries in the Caspian Sea.
