The plastic industry in Khorasan Razavi, with about 650 industrial units and 22,000 jobs, is facing new challenges amid the crisis. Securing polymer raw materials and prices resulting from the 40-day war has become one of the main concerns of this industry.
Production and Employment Status in the Plastic Industry
Firooz Ebrahimi, the head of the Khorasan Razavi Homogeneous Plastic Industries Association, stated that this province currently ranks second in plastic production in the country after Tehran. In addition to 650 industrial units, about 800 workshop units are also active in this sector. He noted that this industry accounts for more than 10 percent of the country's investment and employment capacity.

Challenges in Securing Raw Materials
Ebrahimi further pointed to the impact of the 40-day war on securing raw materials, mentioning that some petrochemical facilities were targeted in attacks. However, plastic industry activists managed to meet their needs in less than 25 days. He also referred to the decrease in the price of polymer raw materials, which, after rising to about 300,000 tomans, has now returned to pre-war conditions and is around 200,000 tomans.
The Impact of the Energy Crisis on Costs
Ebrahimi also mentioned the increase in production overhead costs, stating that the prices of electricity and gas for industries have doubled compared to before the war. This increase in costs has created significant economic pressure, especially for units that are forced to use generators. He clarified that although the prices of plastic products have increased by an average of 10 to 20 percent compared to before the war, this increase is due to rising energy and production overhead costs.
Competitive Advantage of Khorasan Razavi
In conclusion, Ebrahimi referred to the geographical position of Khorasan Razavi and its export markets. He stated that this province, with about 860 kilometers of common borders and a population of over 300 million in neighboring countries, is capable of supplying large export markets. Additionally, Khorasan Razavi has a high capacity for consuming plastic products due to its 7 million population and the annual influx of 35 to 40 million tourists and travelers.
