Sponge iron, as one of the strategic products in the steel production chain, has a high dependency on catalysts. These catalysts improve the conditions for chemical reactions in the process of converting iron ore to sponge iron, helping to increase process yield, reduce energy consumption, decrease pollution, and enhance product quality.

Iran, due to its significant natural gas reserves, has enabled the production of sponge iron at lower costs. Currently, the country's steel production capacity has reached about 37 million tons, and the use of domestic catalysts can lead to reduced dependence on imports and increased productivity.
Production Capacity and Company Activities
The nominal capacity of Iranian Catalyst Expansion includes the production of 520 tons of vanadium pentoxide catalyst and 1,167 tons of DRI catalyst. The Mining and Metals Development Investment Company, as the main shareholder of this group, plays an important role in strengthening the market for this company's products. The company's activities include acquiring and developing laboratory, semi-industrial, and industrial technical knowledge of various catalysts, creating design and production infrastructures, as well as producing and selling DRI catalysts.
Iranian Catalyst Expansion has also expanded into laboratory services, project management, and educational services, and by investing in laboratory infrastructures, has made part of its specialized services available to other companies and requesting centers. The development of educational services and the transfer of specialized knowledge in the field of catalysts is also among the company's other programs.
