Electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrids are rapidly increasing in sales, especially in regions like Europe and Asia, as people's attitudes shift from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to cleaner options. However, there have been past prejudices about luxury electric vehicles and supercars. Now, several well-known automakers have introduced hybrid and electric versions of their sports or luxury cars with astonishing range and speeds, attracting a growing number of consumers.

Development of Electric Vehicle Technology

In recent years, automakers have significantly improved EV technology to offer higher speeds and longer ranges. Long-range electric vehicles (EREVs) are similar to plug-in hybrids but provide greater battery range and have more powerful electric motors. In these types of vehicles, the engine and generator are less frequently turned on and only operate to generate electricity. Additionally, these vehicles are typically designed without traditional power transmission, with the wheels being fully driven by an electric motor.

New Models and Advanced Capabilities

Two EREV models, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer REEV and Stellantis RAM 1500 REV, are set to hit the U.S. market in late 2026. These vehicles feature a V6 engine with a 130-kilowatt generator and a 92-kilowatt-hour battery, providing more power than the BMW i3. The RAM 1500 REV is expected to have an electric range of 145 miles and an overall range of over 600 miles with 647 horsepower.

Automakers are also rapidly developing capabilities for EV sports models. Some of these models can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in less than two seconds. The design of these vehicles allows them to operate without the constraints of large internal combustion engines, enabling designers to create high-performance and high-speed cars.

In this context, Jaguar unveiled its new vehicle, Type 01, in New York in October. This four-door electric model, with a range of up to 400 miles and supercar acceleration, is expected to go on sale in early 2027, starting at a price of $130,500 in the United States. Additionally, Bentley has introduced its all-electric SUV, the Bentley Turcal, with a base price of $230,000.
