Omid Shakri announced at a brainstorming session with senior managers of the National Petrochemical Company that Iran's petrochemical industry will reach a production of over 75 million tons of products by the end of 2025, with an installed annual capacity of more than 101 million tons. Meanwhile, the value of the products produced in this sector will exceed $22 billion.

Investment and added value of the petrochemical industry

Shakri emphasized that the $91.6 billion investment in the petrochemical industry plays a significant role in preventing raw material sales and generating foreign currency for the country. He also stated that of this product value, about $12 billion will be for exports and more than $10 billion will be sold domestically.

Challenges and opportunities in the petrochemical industry

The CEO of the National Petrochemical Company referred to the 10% share of this industry in the country's gas consumption and added that this share has not yet reached the desired level. However, the petrochemical industry has been able to create $22 billion in added value by 2025. Shakri also reminded that to ensure sustainable feedstock supply for petrochemical industries, this industry must enter upstream development and prioritize gas collection projects.

Capacity development and job creation plan

According to the planned programs, the installed capacity of the petrochemical industry should reach about 111 million tons, which means an increase of about 15 million tons in capacity by the end of the seventh development plan. Shakri also emphasized that the petrochemical industry directly created jobs for 148,000 people and indirectly for 1,215,000 people in 2024.

Regarding social responsibilities, the CEO of the National Petrochemical Company announced an expenditure of nearly 2 trillion tomans in this area and said that all social responsibility budgets of this industry this year will be allocated to the development of electronic education in schools. Shakri also referred to crisis management in the petrochemical industry during the imposed war and reported on the reconstruction of damaged facilities, stating that currently, 60% of the lost capacity has returned to the production cycle.
