The number of China-Europe freight train trips through the Eastern Corridor has reached a record 6,024 trips this year, marking a 40.3% increase compared to last year. This is the first time that annual traffic in this corridor has exceeded 6,000 trips.

Details of the Eastern Corridor

The Eastern Corridor includes three main railway ports in Manzhouli, Suifenhe, and Tongjiang, connecting to over 60 cities in China and 14 European countries. This corridor acts as one of the most important trade routes between China and Europe, playing a key role in facilitating trade between the two regions.

Performance of Shijiazhuang International Port

In the first quarter of this year, Shijiazhuang International Port in Hebei Province, China, has completed 1,023 China-Europe freight train trips and managed 103,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of import and export containers. These figures represent increases of 27.4% and 26% respectively compared to last year, setting a new record for this period.

Route Development and Changes in Cargo Composition

Shijiazhuang Port, as an important China-Europe freight train hub in northern China, now operates 27 regular routes connecting to over 50 countries and regions in Asia and Europe. The cargo composition of this port has shifted from everyday consumer goods and textile materials to higher value products such as electronics, photovoltaic products, and advanced equipment. These changes reflect the growing role of technology-driven and higher value goods in China's exports.

Shanghai's Foreign Trade Records

At the same time, Shanghai's foreign trade has also reached a new record in the first quarter of this year. According to Shanghai Customs statistics, the ports of this city managed imports and exports worth 10.35 trillion yuan, equivalent to 1.5 trillion US dollars, during this period, representing a 23.7% increase compared to last year. This figure accounts for 25.9% of China's total foreign trade, placing Shanghai's ports at the forefront of the country.
