The People’s Support for the Twelfth Gas Industry of the Country will be launched in the winter of 1405 with the aim of optimizing natural gas consumption, especially during the cold days of the year. Reza Tirgar, the head of the Energy Committee of the Environmental Fraction of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, pointed out the existing challenges in balancing the supply and demand of natural gas in Iran and said: "Despite Iran's significant natural gas reserves, the country faces increased consumption in the residential and commercial sectors during the cold season. This increase in consumption exacerbates production and transmission limitations and puts a lot of pressure on power plants and industries."
The Necessity of Public Participation and a New Approach
Tirgar emphasized that a comprehensive approach is needed for optimal gas consumption management. He added: "The public is not just gas consumers; they can play a role as one of the most effective actors in managing energy demand." For this reason, Tirgar proposed the design and implementation of the National Campaign of the People’s Support for the Twelfth Gas Industry of the Country, which will be formed with the participation of the National Iranian Gas Company, media, municipalities, schools, and universities.

Consumption Management and Creating Healthy Competition
The goal of this campaign is to increase the number of participants and to achieve a real reduction in gas consumption in the country. Tirgar stated: "Every family, school, office, and store can become a participating unit in gas consumption management. To achieve this goal, a simple information and participation system needs to be established so that citizens can share their successful experiences and offer suggestions for improving energy management."
He also referred to creating healthy competition among families and schools, saying: "Considering the differences in climate, building area, and number of household members, the performance of consumers can be compared, and those who have a significant and real reduction in consumption can be awarded points. These points can be offered in the form of discounts or rewards."
In conclusion, Tirgar highlighted the importance of cultural development in this area, stating: "If we are to institutionalize the culture of optimal consumption, we must start from schools and universities. Students can be ambassadors of energy management in their families and social environments."
