The Japanese Environment Minister, Hirotaka Ishihara, along with 11 other government officials, visited the final vehicle terminal of the International Car Operator (ICO) in Zeebrugge Port, Belgium, on September 6, 2026. This visit was aimed at familiarizing with the carbon reduction initiatives and environmental strategies of ICO and the NYK Group.
Familiarization with Innovative Technologies
During this visit, the delegation was introduced to the ship "Wild Rose Leader," which is recognized as a vehicle and truck carrier powered by LNG and operates under the NYK Group. This ship is considered one of the most advanced fleets in maritime transport aimed at carbon reduction in the transportation industry.

The visitors, led by the captain and chief engineer of the ship, toured key areas including the bridge and engine room, and became acquainted with new technologies used in the transportation process and carbon reduction.
ICO and NYK Group's Carbon Reduction Strategies
During this three-hour visit to the ICO final vehicle terminal, the delegation learned about the carbon reduction strategies of the NYK Group and the supportive activities of this group towards the European Union. This strategy includes on-site wind power generation facilities and shore power systems for RoRo ships powered by renewable energy.
The NYK Group, in collaboration with ICO and other group companies and business partners, will continue to promote carbon reduction and strive towards developing sustainable supply chains and enhancing industrial competitiveness. These collaborations will benefit the transportation industry and the environment.
