The annual growth of total credit granted to the Greek economy remained stable at 3.5 percent in August 2026. This rate of change has remained unchanged from the previous month, indicating stability in the economic conditions of the country.
Bank Lending Situation
Bank lending has generally recorded a negative amount of 38 million euros, although this figure shows a relative improvement compared to the severe negative flow of 3.89 billion euros last month. This change may be a sign of a return of confidence in the banking system and improvement in economic conditions.

Impact on the Private and Public Sectors
The improvement in lending conditions is mainly due to increased lending to the private sector, which has turned into a net inflow of 478 million euros from a net outflow of 2.52 billion euros last month. However, the rate of decline in credit to the private sector has increased to 2.4 percent from 2 percent last month. Meanwhile, credit to the public government has also relatively improved, changing from a net outflow of 1.37 billion euros to a net outflow of 516 million euros. The annual growth of credit to the government has also increased to 7.1 percent from 6.7 percent last month.
These changes in credit may indicate macroeconomic changes that contribute to new movements in financial markets and increased private sector investments. As a result, it is expected that the economic conditions in Greece will improve in the near future, allowing the country to effectively address its financial challenges.
