The Arena partnership, established in 2024 to develop scalable digital technologies for subsurface processes and oil field development by SLB and TotalEnergies, has now been strengthened with Chevron's collaboration. Chevron has joined this partnership by providing investment, intellectual property, and technical expertise, helping to develop the roadmap for subsurface digital technologies.

Chevron's Expertise in Uncertainty Analysis and Field Planning

Leveraging its expertise in uncertainty analysis, optimization, and field development planning, Chevron contributes to shaping the roadmap for subsurface digital technologies. Rakesh Jagi, Head of Digital at SLB, stated that this collaboration integrates SLB's digital and subsurface expertise with operational knowledge to develop technologies for reservoir engineering and geosciences. He added that Chevron's experience and insights will enhance how complex subsurface processes and field development decisions are addressed.

Collaboration Model and Its Impact on Technology Development

The collaboration model is designed for subject matter experts from Chevron and TotalEnergies to work at SLB's technology centers, directly incorporating operational experience into technology development. These companies aim to reduce feedback time between operators and development teams and to address complex reservoirs and the growing volumes of subsurface data. Chevron has also announced that this collaboration will include digital technologies and AI-based processes to improve uncertainty analysis and subsurface decision-making.

Jitendra Kikani, Vice President of Chevron's Subsurface division, stated that through Arena, these companies are combining their global expertise in uncertainty analysis with digital technologies and AI-based processes to enhance decision-making quality, accelerate insights, and increase operational efficiency.

This new collaboration is based on the companies' previous experiences in developing the Intersect reservoir simulator, and Arena expands the relationship among these three companies with a focus on open and scalable technologies for reservoir engineering, geosciences, and field development planning.
