The ship recycling market in Pakistan remains active in terms of buying interest despite limited availability of ships. Reports indicate that only a few sales have been recorded, with just one tanker of approximately 17,000 tons, which had previously been attacked by a drone, arriving at the Gadani port. Otherwise, a significant volume of ships has not entered the market.
Market Situation for Ships in Pakistan
The market situation currently appears to be heavily saturated, as buyers have previously purchased a significant volume of ships, and some feel that previous purchases were made at relatively high levels. This situation has led to a decrease in ship prices. The local steel market conditions are generally weak, and pressure from imports of hot-rolled sheets from China and recently competitively priced materials from Brazil has limited the improvement of domestic market sentiments. Overall, there is still purchasing capacity, but the combination of limited availability of ships, softer ship prices, and a weak local steel environment has made buyers more cautious.

Market Developments in Turkey
Last week, the ship recycling market in Turkey showed slight improvement, with ship prices gradually increasing, which is typically observed at this time of year. Imported scrap and local steel prices also experienced increases, bolstering market sentiments, although the upward movement in prices of recycled ships remained limited. Overall, market conditions have remained relatively stable, and recyclers have maintained a similar level of purchasing while awaiting clearer signals from the steel and scrap markets.
In a separate report, the Intermodal shipping agency stated that last week, major ship recycling hubs remained generally stable, and activities in India were affected by national holidays. India continues to face supply shortages, and national holidays have slowed activities throughout the week. Local steel market fundamentals are sending mixed signals, as sheet prices have improved from their recent lows, while the local currency has weakened against the US dollar.
In Chittagong, there is a steady demand for purchases. The domestic steel sector has been bolstered by rising prices throughout the week, and the value of the taka against the US dollar has slightly increased. High-quality standards adhered to by several Bangladeshi yards have helped attract more recycled ships. Delays in receiving timely letters of credit from banks pose a significant challenge for recyclers, especially for larger ships. The Gadani port has remained in a weak position this week, as demand for ships has slightly decreased, and buyers remain cautious in selecting available ships.
