Seyed Tahsin Madani, head of the Smart Governance Think Tank and senior energy expert, highlighted the importance of developing artificial intelligence infrastructure and electric transport reliant on stable electricity, stating: "The development of these infrastructures depends on diversifying the energy portfolio and creating a stable electricity network." He emphasized that nuclear energy can play a significant role in electricity supply, adding: "The goal is to produce 20,000 megawatts of nuclear electricity over the next 15 years."

Global Status of Nuclear Energy

Madani, referring to the experiences of various countries, said: "Nuclear energy remains an important component of the global electricity production portfolio. In the United States, over 18 percent of electricity is supplied by nuclear power plants, and the country's nuclear electricity production will reach about 782 terawatt-hours in 2024." He continued: "France supplies over 67 percent of its electricity from nuclear power plants, with its nuclear electricity production around 365 terawatt-hours."

Madani also pointed to the contributions of other countries to nuclear electricity production, stating: "South Korea is expected to produce about 32 percent of its electricity, equivalent to about 180 terawatt-hours, from nuclear energy in 2024. Japan has also increased its share of nuclear electricity to about eight percent, equivalent to 85 terawatt-hours."

Iran's Need for Energy Diversification

The head of the Smart Governance Think Tank emphasized the high dependence of Iran's electricity network on natural gas, stating: "Currently, about 85 percent of the country's electricity relies on natural gas, which makes the energy network vulnerable to gas imbalances and seasonal limitations." He noted: "This dependence can lead to blackouts, disruptions in industrial activities, and increased vulnerability of critical infrastructures."

Madani emphasized that the development of nuclear power plants could help diversify the energy portfolio. "The plan to produce 20,000 megawatts of nuclear electricity by 2041 is defined within this framework, requiring significant domestic and foreign investment."

He further referred to the impact of nuclear electricity on the electrification of transport, stating: "To achieve electrification goals, new and stable capacity for electricity production must be created. Nuclear power plants can meet part of this need and help reduce fuel consumption and pollution."

Madani, referring to advancements in nuclear technology, mentioned small modular reactors (SMR) and said: "These reactors can play an important role in energy supply in the future and are also highly significant from a passive defense perspective."
