Omid Shakri, the CEO of the National Petrochemical Company, reported on the process of rebuilding the damaged capacities of this industry in the country and announced that about 60 percent of the lost capacities have returned to the production cycle. He pointed to the two main hubs of the country's petrochemical industry, namely Assaluyeh and Mahshahr, and reported on efforts to revive the capacities of these regions.

The Reconstruction Process in Assaluyeh and Mahshahr

Shakri stated: The damages inflicted on the petrochemical industry are divided into two sections: utilities and some specific processes, and appropriate actions are being taken for reconstruction in both sections. The reconstruction process of utilities is being continuously pursued, and we aim to restore a significant portion of the lost capacities to the production cycle by the end of this year.

Feedstock Limitations in Winter

The CEO of the National Petrochemical Company referred to the feedstock limitations of this industry in the winter season and said: We will likely face gas limitations due to imbalance in the winter. This issue has existed every year, and this year, considering the damages from the war to the refining industry, the situation has become more difficult.

He added: Nevertheless, in terms of the amount of capacity recovery and readiness for production, the petrochemical industry is in a favorable condition, and we are striving to create better conditions in this sector by the end of the year. Shakri also referred to the implementation of energy restrictions in the winter season and stated that every year during this season, with the increase in gas consumption in the residential sector, unintended restrictions are imposed on some industries, including petrochemicals.

Reduction of Refining Capacities and Upcoming Challenges

Shakri continued: This year, the conditions are more difficult, and about 230 million cubic meters of the refining capacity of the gas industry have been lost. With the efforts of the Ministry of Oil, the National Gas Company of Iran, and the National Oil Company of Iran, some of these capacities have returned to the production cycle, but shortages still exist. We are working to minimize the effects of the war and the reduction of capacities created for petrochemical complexes, but the reality is that this year will be tougher for the petrochemical industry.

Regarding the sale of petrochemical products, the CEO of the National Petrochemical Company said: The petrochemical industry itself is the seller of the product and exports its products. The currency obtained from exports returns to the country, and the entire export process and currency return are conducted under the supervision of the Central Bank, and there is no problem in this regard.
