The preservation of daily production of over 700 million cubic meters of gas from the South Pars field was emphasized in a special technology development task force meeting chaired by the First Vice President. In this meeting, various proposals for the application of modern technologies in the oil and gas industry were reviewed, and 117 projects were prepared in collaboration with 42 different entities.

Key Objectives of the Projects

These projects aim to enhance the resilience of the oil and gas industry, inter-agency coordination, support and facilitation for the private sector, and the development of dual-use technologies. Other objectives of these projects include increasing daily oil production by at least 250,000 barrels, boosting the country's foreign exchange earnings by $5 billion, and increasing the efficiency of oil fields.

Implementation of the South Pars Pressure Enhancement Project

In the South Pars pressure enhancement project, various contracts have been signed for the design and development of downhole and surface turbines and compressors, and their implementation has begun. One of these projects, which will be inaugurated by the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, utilizes the latest technologies for pressure enhancement turbines. This technology has previously been available to only five countries.

With the implementation of these projects, it is anticipated that over the next 40 years, the equivalent of $500 billion in surplus gas production will be secured from the pressure enhancement scheme, maintaining the daily production of 700 million cubic meters of gas from the South Pars field. Additionally, maintaining the capacity of the electricity production network and gasoline produced from liquids, as well as preventing an increase in energy imbalance, are other objectives of these projects.

Increasing Gas Supply and Reducing Energy Imbalance

The use of modern technologies to manage flaring and implement surface natural gas storage projects will result in an annual increase of 8 billion cubic meters in gas supply. This action will also support non-oil exports by $1 billion and enhance the stability of the gas distribution network during the winter season.

For the first time in the country, a contract has been signed to pre-sell flare gases after purification, and a project to convert flare gas into value-added products has begun in collaboration with petrochemical industries and knowledge-based companies.

Production of Group 3 Base Oil and Reducing Imports

In line with improving the quality of heavy refinery residues, multiple projects are underway that will lead to the desulfurization of fuel oil and the production of Group 3 base oil for the first time in the country. With the development of this production, imports of this product will decrease, and by the end of the seventh development plan, fuel oil production will be reduced by 49 million liters.

Ultimately, the First Vice President emphasized in this meeting that a comprehensive package on energy conservation and preserving national wealth should be prepared, and the oil and gas industry should be viewed as a national commitment to help increase national wealth and eliminate poverty.
